Vigilance submits final report in dal scam

With the Vigilance department submitting its final report on dal scam to Orissa government, more heads are likely to roll.

Bhubaneswar: With the Vigilance department
submitting its final report on dal scam to Orissa government,
more heads are likely to roll as massive irregularities on
supply of substandard pulses were reported from many
districts, official sources said on Wednesday.

The Vigilance`s final report came four days after the
resignation of Pramila Mallilk as women and child development
minister on Saturday.
Besides, the state government had initiated action
against three IAS officers who had been Collectors in
Mayurbhanj, Balasore and Deogarh districts.

While the Vigilance department had earlier given its
investigation report on the supply of substandard pulses to
Deogarh, Mayurbhanj and Balasore districts, it recently handed
over the final findings from Ganjam and Jajpur district.

"We have received the report from Vigilance on Jajpur
and Ganjam districts," chief secretary B K Patnaik told
reporters adding he was waiting for a supporting document from
the anti-corruption wing on the findings of public analysts.

Stating that he had forwarded the vigilance report to
the Women and Child Development department for further
examination, he said public analysts would give their remarks
on quality of pulses being supplied in the five districts.
The vigilance sleuths during investigation had seized
samples of substandard pulses being given to different schools
and anganwadi centres for mid-day meal (MDM) scheme and
supplementary nutrition programme (SNP).

"The sample pulses need to be scientifically verified
before filing chargesheet against the persons found involved
in the scam," a senior vigilance official said.

The final report included irregularities in Jajpur,
the native district of the then WCD minister Mallik. Moreover,
the first allegation of supply of substandard dal to schools
and anganwadi centres was reported from Jajpur district.

Meanwhile, after taking charge of WCD department,
minister Prafulla Samal directed the authorities to withdraw
substandard dal from all places. "We have also decided to
black list dal supplier firms," he said.
