Bhubaneswar: At least 531 women have
become pregnant despite undergoing permanent birth control
operation in Orissa.
This was revealed by Health and Family Welfare
minister Prasanna Acharya while replying a question in the
assembly.
However, the government did not feel it necessary to
take action against any doctor for fault in conducting
tubectomy surgery, the minister said.
As many as 60,0369 women underwent family planning
operation between 2006-07 to 2010-11 in the state, he said
adding that out of 531 women who conceived again, 236 were
given compensation by different insurance companies.
The compensation were given by insurance companies
under Central government`s Family Welfare Insurance Scheme as
per a direction of the Supreme Court, Acharya said.
The minister, however, assured the House that the
government would not hesitate to take action against the
doctors if they were found guilty in performing surgery under
family planning activities.
