Balasore: A youth was arrested
on Wednesday for allegedly raping an eight-year-old girl in Odisha`s
Bhadrak district, in another incident of rape in the state.
The girl, presently admitted at the SCB Medical
College Hospital in Cuttack after the incident, was stated to
be in critical condition due to injuries, police said.
The girl had gone to her uncle`s house at Avjanaon
village in Bhadrak district to witness Makar festivities on
January 21 and allegedly raped by the 26-year old shop keeper
when she went there to purchase some toys, police said.
The girl, however, was rescued as someone accidentally
turned up at that spot and immediately taken to nearby
hospital, which referred her to the medical college hospital
after preliminary treatment.
As neither the victim nor the parents could divulge
anything about the accused, it took time for the police
to nab the culprit," said DIG (Eastern Range) Sanjay Kumar.
Kumar said he ordered setting up a team headed by
sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Kailash Chandra Parida to
probe into the incident.
