Malkangiri: Maoists gunned down a young man in Malkangiri district in Odisha early Wednesday suspecting him to be a police informer, police said.
A group of armed rebels barged into the house of the victim, Ganga Padiami (32) and shot him dead after dragging him out at Katakonda village under MV-79 area, about 65 km from here, they said.
The ultras disappeared into nearby forest after the incident shouting slogans against the security forces and the government.
A poster found from the spot indicated that the Maoists decided to eliminated Padiami as they suspected him to be a police informer, the sources said.
Security personnel had been rushed to the site to launch combing operation and patrolling in the area.
The incident came barely two days after the Maoists killed a peon of Kalimela block office near MV-105 in the rebel-infested district.
