Bhubaneswar: After leaving trails of devastation in Andhra Pradesh, cyclone 'Laila' continued to trigger rains in coastal Orissa on Sunday bringing respite from the sweltering heat.

Many places in coastal and south Orissa districts like Ganjam, Puri, Kandhamal, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack and Kendrapara were lashed by heavy to moderate showers for the last three days, official sources said.

The meteorological centre here forecast heavy rain at some places in coastal parts in the next two days accompanied by strong and gusty surface wind with speeds reaching 45-50 kmph and advised fishermen not to venture into the sea.

Rain or thundershower is likely to occur at many places over coastal Orissa and some places over interior parts of the state, it said.

In state capital Bhubaneswar 48 mm intermittent rainfall was recorded, while seaside pilgrim town Puri received around 40 mm rains during the day, the Met office said.
