Cuttack: A 19-year-old college
student was shot dead here last night allegedly by her cousin
over a property dispute.
According to police, Sunita Prusty of Tarachandpatna
in Peethapur locality was shot at allegedly by her cousin
Sunil. The girl had received three gunshot injuries around 11
pm last night when she was attacked by Sunil and some of his
friends.
Sunita succumbed to the injuries on her way to the
hospital, the police said.
We have registered a case and investigating into the
matter. Sunil and his accomplices are absconding after the
incident, a police officer said.
The police have also been unable to arrest the
perpetrators of Saturday's firing on a contractor, Sunday's
bomb blast in a shop and Monday's attack on a cycle store
proprietor.
Police inaction has come in for sharp criticism from
the opposition Congress, CPI-M and other political parties and
the residents.
"We have repeatedly urged the authorities to take
concrete measures to improve the law and order situation
in the city. But the situation is worsening day by day as the
city police are appearing shaky in their approach", senior
Congress leader and PCC general secretary Suresh Chandra
Mohapatra said.
