Bhubaneswar: Eight fresh cases of swine flu were detected in several areas of Orissa on Saturday and sent to different hospitals, an official said.

"Of the total 17 swab samples tested today, eight were tested positive to H1N1 virus. They were immediately rushed to different hospitals," said Bikas Patnaik, the nodal officer in-charge of health department control room here.

While five patients were admitted at government hospitals, three were being treated at two private hospitals here, he said.

Eight people have already succumbed to the killer disease in the state.

"As the H1N1 virus carriers are being detected from different places of the state, the state government has decided to conduct a study using Global Positioning System (GPS) to identify the area of infection," said T K B Patra, one of the members of the Technical Committee monitoring the spread of the disease.
