Bhubaneswar: Slamming the BJD government in Orissa for alleged corruption and scams, the BJP on Tuesday accused it of violating laws and neglecting the state's interests to favour private companies.

"Orissa is suffering under the ineffective and corrupt BJD government which has failed on all fronts," BJP President Nitin Gadkari told reporters.

Accusing the Naveen Patnaik government of violating laws to show favour to private companies, Gadkari alleged that crores of rupees were misappropriated during the BJD rule in the name of providing roads and drinking water in the poverty-stricken KBK region.

The BJD government also failed in utilising central schemes and projects due to callousness, he claimed.

Gadkari alleged that corruption in states like Orissa and Assam needed to be highlighted at the national level. To check corruption, resources like minerals should be given on auction basis and e-tender introduced, he said.

The BJP chief said agriculture was suffering in Orissa in the absence of measures to strengthen irrigation, diversify crop pattern and prevent natural calamities like floods by building a proper canal system.

Gadkari claimed that BJP would bounce back to power in the state in the next elections.
