Sambalpur (Orissa): At least 10 people, including five women, were killed and 15 others injured in a collision between a passenger bus and a truck in the district on Thursday.

The bus from Bargarh was proceeding to Rourkela when it collided head-on with the bus near Babubandha on NH-6 under Burla police station.

While seven persons died on the spot, three others were declared dead at VSS Medical College Hospital at Burla, police said.

The 15 injured were also admitted at the same hospital where the condition of five was stated to be serious.

Local people staged a demonstration and put up road blockade near the site for some time demanding immediate steps for improvement and repair of the NH, saying the highway was in a bad shape and had become accident prone.

Efforts were on to remove the mangled vehicles to resume smooth traffic movement in the highway.
