Bhadrak (Orissa): Amid a statewide uproar over the alleged rape of a dalit girl at Pipili in Puri district, a 19-year-old college girl was allegedly gangraped in a moving bus and murdered in Orissa's Bhadrak district.
The victim, a plus three first year student of Bhadrak
Autonomous Collage and resident of Ranipur had boarded a
private bus to return to her village around 5.30 pm last
evening. The girl, however, did not reach her home.
However, two hours later two youths reached the
government hospital at Agarpada with the girl who was in an
unconscious state. "They ran away from the hospital leaving
behind their motor bike after doctors declared the girl dead,"
the girl's father claimed.
"My daughter was raped in the running bus before being
killed," the father alleged.
"The police have arrested Raghunath Nayak (driver) and
Kartik Chandra Hazira (conductor) of the bus, Superintendent
of Police Chintamani Panda said today.
Meanwhile, the police have registered a case of rape,
murder and kidnapping, Panda said. The girl's father said the
girl might have been killed after being raped.
Angry over the incident, the students of Bhadrak
Autonomous College here today staged a demonstration in front
of the SP's office and blocked the road between Bhadrak and
Agarpada for about 2 hours.
