Malkangiri (Orissa): Orissa government on Friday launched a Rs four crore scheme for the development of the primitive Bonda tribe who eke out their living by hunting animals.

Under the scheme, 200 Bonda youths will be imparted training for earning money through decent means, Malkangiri Collector, Balwant Singh told a tribal-meet here.

"Our focus is on sending all Bonda children to schools, motivate youths to take part in MGNRGA works and quit alchol," Singh said.

Bonda tribe live about 5,000 metre above sea level on the hill top of Mudulipada and Andrahal areas in Malkangiri district.

The tribal men in half-naked state prefer to hunt in the jungle and the youths laze under the influence of brew.

Many youths, who participated in the meeting, took oath that they would not take alcohol henceforth.
