Phulbani (Odisha): Braving the severe cold, security personnel arrested three Maoists during the last three days of combing operations in Odisha's Kandhamal district, police said.

The ultras were arrested during a joint combing operation launched by CRPF, Cobra and elite SOG group in Srirampur, Kotagoda, Daringibadi and Brahmanigaon areas.

The ultras were identified as Manmohan Pradhan, Suneswar Balta Majhi and Peta Guduluka who were involved in several acts of violence, Jaynarayan Pankaj, Superintendent of Police, Kandhamal said.

All the arrested were being interrogated to get further information about Maoist activities in the area, the SP said.

He said the security personnel were conducting combing operation in cold weather at Kotgarh and Daringbadi area where mercury level fell to minus 2 degree Celsius in the last three days.

Combing operations in the area has been intensified following a landmine blast on Januaray 5 in which three security personnel were killed and an equal number injured, the SP said.
