Rourkela: Two persons accused of being Maoists involved in a murder case were acquitted by a fast-track court here for lack of evidence.

Debendra Samal and Belen Barla were arrested along with 20 others branding them as Maoists in connection with the killing of one Rabindra Oram of Swayamba village under K Balang police station in Sundargarh district on March 18, 2009.

In the judgement pronounced on Monday, the judge Gopabandhu Patnaik acquitted the duo after finding no evidence against them in the crime.

Altogether 22 persons including Samal and Barla had been prosecuted in the murder case. Of them, 20 were earlier acquitted by a trial court recently.
