Jajpur (Orissa): The police on Sunday arrested a youth and forwarded him to the court on charges of forging a letter and signature of a ruling party MLA in Orissa's Jajpur district.

The arrested has been identified as Sujit Kumar Mishra of Khetrapal village in Jajpur district. Mishra was produced in the court of JMFC at Chandikhole and was remanded to judicial custody after his bail application was rejected.

Police sources said, Dharmasala MLA Kalpataru Das in his letter to AJ Toll had recommended 12 of his people to be appointed in Toll plaza project along National Highway no 5(A) at Srirampur village in Jajpur district.

Later, the company authorities received another letter signed by the MLA Das, in which one name was changed.

Suspecting something fishy, the project manager of the company concerned tried to verify the authenticity of the letter for which he contacted the legislator.

When the MLA came to know about the incident, he filed a complaint with the police to arrest the accused.

"We found the letter a forged one and the same was made by the accused in a kiosk at Chandikhole," said Suvendu Kumar Sinha, inspector-in-charge of Dharmasala police station.

The accused has reportedly confessed the crime he committed, police said.
