Mumbai: The Indian Rugby team, led by skipper
Nasser Hussain, will leave today to participate in the Dubai
7s rugby tournament scheduled to be held between December 3-5.
India will compete against three other teams in their
pool namely Les Bleus 7s (France), Tatarstan (Russia) and
Namibia Invitational and the top two team progress to the
quarterfinal stage.
The team has undergone an exhausting training schedule at
Balewadi Pune, preparing for these tournaments in the run up
to the upcoming 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi.
"The Dubai Sevens is one of the most awaited tournaments
in the Rugby calendar. Coupled with our rigorous practice, the
international exposure in the last two months has given the
team immense confidence to play alongside and compete against
the best teams in the world," Hussain said.
"This tournament will be a fantastic exposure for a young
team like ours and the boys are looking forward to give it
their best," he added.
Hussain will lead the eleven-member squad which includes
Surinder Singh, Hemant Kumar, Dalwinder Singh, Sujai Lama,
Ganesh Sawant, Deepak Dagar, Pritom Roy, Rohaan Sethna, Sendil
Kumar, Sukhdeep Singh.
Coaches -- Hendre Marnitz and Norman Laker, the team
physiotherapist Sandeep Choudhari, Assistant Coach Manas Kumar
Jena, the team manager and sports analyst Kim Davey will also
travel with the team.
