IWF decides to abide by Sports Ministry age, tenure guidelines New Delhi: Indian Weightlifting Federation is set to become the second national sports body after All India Tennis Association to declare its adherence to the age and tenure limitation guidelines of the government.

The IWF President Birendra Prasad Baishya today sent a letter to Sports Minister M S Gill informing that the government guidelines issued in May will be placed before its General Body meeting for approval.

"We are going to place the age and tenure limitation guidelines of Sports Ministry issued on May 1 before the GB meeting to be called shortly for approval," a top IWF official told reporters.

"This letter is a follow up of the written assurance given to Mr Gill by Mr Baishya a few days ago," the source added.

All India Tennis Association had recently declared that it will abide by the age and tenure limitation guidelines of the Sports Ministry.

Cash-strapped IWF had asked the Sports Ministry to give interest-free loan of Rs 1 crore so that it can pay before August 31 deadline the USD 3,75,000 fine to International Weightlifting Federation after six Indian lifters flunked dope tests last year.
