Jagtap loses in final of European Junior Squash event

New Delhi: India's UK-based Squash player Aditya Jagtap's dream run at the Nordic Junior Open Squash Championship came to an end after defending champion Henrik Mustonen defeated him in the U-19 category finals in Malmo, Sweden.

Jagtap, ranked 399th in the world, put up a brave fight against his much stronger opponent from Finland, who is ranked 133rd in the world, before bowing out 6-11, 12-10, 8-11, 3-11 in one hour 13 minutes.

It was Mustonen's third successive appearance in the Nordic Open climax and the 18-year-old claimed his third ESF circuit trophy of the year, after winning the Pioneer and Dutch Junior Open crowns in July.

Earlier in the semis, Jagtap had beaten England's Robert Downe 9-11, 11-7, 7-11, 11-5, 11-5, while Mustonen got the better of England's Nathan Lake 11-8, 11-2, 11-4.

England's 15-year-old Emily Whitlock won the U-19 title in the women's event of the championship, winning her maiden European Squash Federation Junior Circuit trophy.
