Nagpur: Patric Lusato of Tanzania and Hellen
Musyoka of Kanya cornered the glory, winning the second
edition of Nagpur International Marathon here on Sunday.
Patrick clocked 2hrs 13mins 6secs to complete the
marathon of 42.195 kms. He maintained the lead through the
race and won the coveted prize.
Tanzanian Oswald Kaharuzi (2 hrs 13 mins 7secs) occupied
the second place in the men's full marathon while Kenyan
Benson Yator finished third with a timing of 2hrs 13mins 54
secs.
Patrick was presented with a cash prize of Rs 2.5 lakh,
while Oswald and Benson earned Rs 2.25 lakh and Rs 2 Lakh
respectively.
Kenyan athlete Hellen required 1hr 11 min 27secs to
finish a distance of 21.097 kms. She too wrested the lead from
the beginning.
In the women's half marathon Tanzania's Restituta Kemi
came second (1hr 11mins 39 secs), while Ethopian Dehninet Jara
was placed third (1 hr 13mins).
Hellen was awarded a cash prize of Rs 1.50 lakh, while
Restituta and Dehninet received cash prizes of Rs 1.25 lakh
and Rs one lakh respectively.
A bunch of 39 East African athletes mainly from Kenya,
Tanzania and Kenya had turned up for event organised by an
Committee headed by Nagpur MP Vilas Muttemwar.
