New Delhi: The first ever National women's
Rugby Sevens championship will commence here tomorrow at the
Delhi University's Kirori Mal College ground.
Teams from across the country will compete in two
divisions, with each featuring about 10 to 12 teams.
The performance of the players in the two-day event will
earn them a place in the training camp for the national squad.
"It's a great privilege for the women teams to
participate in National Rugby Sevens tournament. Rugby as a
sport is growing in almost all corners of the country, and
more so in the women's game where we've got teams from all
corners of the country," said Pramod Khanna, President of
Rugby India.
"What's also wonderful this time is that the women's
rugby team has got government funding, which will give an
impetus to the growth of the sport in the country," Khanna
added.
