Rome: A return to swimsuits made from more traditional materials seems inevitable from 2010 under new rules, British swimming's performance director Michael Scott said.
A row over performance-enhancing all-polyurethane suits has engulfed the world championships in Rome where governing body FINA agreed to tweak a rule which will ban suits from aiding speed or buoyancy.
Scott said he had been informed that this meant all suits from January would have to be made from textiles.
"If what I have been told is spot on, it's a return to textiles. It's the only way to go," he told reporters.
FINA officials were still in meetings and a news conference was due later.
