Aizawl: The people of Aizawl turned out in large numbers to welcome the torch of the Commonwealth Games 2010 known as the Queen's Baton.
The torch was received at the Lengpui airport near here by Zoliana Royte, secretary-general of the Mizoram Olympic Association who handed it over to Chief Secretary Van Hela Pachuau who is also chairman of the state Queen's Baton Relay Reception Committee.
The Baton was taken around Aizawl by sports personalities, former state sports ministers, leaders of the sports associations and top officials.
A function was held at the Vanapa Hall here addressed by Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla who is also president of the Mizoram Olympic Association.
The baton would stay overnight here and would be taken to Kolkata tomorrow, officials said.
