Sports ministry assures of import of Rs 50 lakh equipment Kolkata: Paying heed to the long standing demand of the Indian archers, Ministry of Sports on Tuesday assured of equipment worth Rs 50 lakh to be imported immediately.

At the steering committee meeting of the Commonwealth Games preparation for archery, Rahul Bhatnagar, joint-secretary in the sports ministry (international sports division) assured of this.

"Equipment worth Rs 50 lakh will be imported immediately. Already equipment worth Rs 30 lakh has been brought," AAI secretary general Paresh Nath Mukherjee told reporters.

Bhatnagar saw the facilities at the SAI Eastern Centre and spoke to national coach Limba Ram wang and Korean coach Wang Woo Lee (korean coach) to get a feedback from them.

During the steering committee meeting, Limba Ram assured the officials that Indian archers would make a clean sweep at the upcoming CWG to be held in New Delhi in October.

"We hope to get at least six of the eight medals up for grabs. But we are aiming for a clean sweep," Limba Ram said.

Deprived of equipment, the archers, currently undergoing training at the SAI (Eastern Centre) in Saltlake for the upcoming Commonwealth Games, had handed over a letter to the sports minister, MS Gill, during his visit on March 24.
