Puducherry: Stalemate continues between the ruling Congress and its ally DMK in Puducherry in seat sharing talks over the 30-member territorial assembly after two rounds of discussions here.

While Congress maintains that it should be earmarked a few seats more than what it contested in the last polls the DMK too has taken a similar stand, according to sources. Congress had contested 16 seats in the 2006 assembly elections, while DMK contested 11.

The next round of talks are due to be held in New Delhi under the guidance of the AICC to finalise the number of seats Congress would contest and its candidates.

Union Minister V Narayanasamy who is the part of the Congress committee holding talks with the DMK functionaries said "negotiations with the DMK are on and we will reach a cordial and happy conclusion shortly".

On the opposition front also no talks had been held between AIADMK and the N Rangasamy led All India NR Congress (AINRC) after last week's meetings between Rangasamy and a two-member delegation of AIADMK's high command.
