Pune: A shocking video showing a group of bakery workers being publicly punished for refusing to pay donation for the upcoming Ganesha festival has come to fore.

The CCTV footage of the incident shows around four to five men being forced to do sit-ups in broad daylight for refusing to pay the donation.

The incident reportedly took place at a bakery in Bhosari area on August 15, Independence Day.

According to the police, the accused persons, all members of the local Ganapati mandal on Alandi Road, had gone to the bakery and demanded donation of Rs 151 from the workers for the upcoming Ganesha festival.

After learning that the workers were non-Maharashtrians and could not pay because of the owner being absent, the accused made them do sit-ups.

One of the workers later complained to the police after which a case was registered under IPC sections 294 (obscene acts in public), 341 (wrongful confinement), 385 (extortion) and 506 (Criminal intimidation).

Meanwhile, the police is believed to have arrested three people in connection with the incident.
