Badal flays Centre for neglecting farmers
Punjab CM Parkash Singh Badal has criticised the Centre for "totally neglecting" the welfare of farmers in the country.
Hyderabad: Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal has criticised the Centre for "totally neglecting" the welfare of farmers in the country.
"Not only in Andhra Pradesh but also in Punjab, Haryana and other states, farmers are in heavy debts everywhere. But the Centre has been totally neglecting the farmers` welfare across the country," Badal said.
Punjab Chief Minister called on Telugu Desam Party President N Chandrababu Naidu at the latter`s residence here on Wednesday, to console him in the aftermath of the eight-day indefinite hunger-strike he had undertaken for the farmers` cause. Badal expressed solidarity with Chandrababu over his fight on the farmers` issue.
"The Centre should alter its agriculture policy so as to benefit the farmers," Badal told newsmen after his meeting with Chandrababu.
Terming Chandrababu "a very old friend" since the time of TDP founder-President N T Rama Rao, the Akali Dal chief regretted that he would not be attending the farmers rally being organised the TDP, Left and other parties in Guntur tomorrow.
"He (Chandrababu) has invited me to attend the rally but I have pre-arranged programmes and hence I am returning to Punjab," the Chief Minister said.
