Chandigarh: The Left on Sunday accused the state government and the transporters` lobby of Punjab of delaying the start of a proposed Duronto express train service between Chandigarh and Amritsar, as promised by the Railway Minister in the last rail budget.
"The transporters` lobby along with Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal are putting spanners to delay the running of train for vested interests," CPI national executive member Joginder Dayal told reporters here.

Most of the transporters in Punjab are politicians from different political parties, including the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD), BJP and Congress, he said.
Several activists of CPI and CPI(M) had recently staged a protest outside the Amritsar railway station, demanding commencement of the Duronto Express rail service between Chandigarh and Amritsar.
