Jalandhar: Claiming that 17 Indian youths
on death row in Sharjah were victims of racial discrimination,
Punjab Minister Manoranjan Kalia on Saturday said the Centre should
take up the issue with UAE authorities to ensure their
release.
"Prime Minister must address the nation about
diplomatic and strategic steps being taken to save lives of 17
Indians on death row in UAE. Citizens await a strong action
from the Centre on this sensitive issue since death sentence
for 17 countrymen is actually another example of racial
discrimination in the legal garb," Kalia said here.
Kalia, senior BJP leader and Punjab Local
Bodies minister, said the prime minister must take up the
issue with his UAE counterpart to secure release of Indians
convicted for allegedly killing a Pakistani national.
"There are reports about innocence of these Indians
including 16 Punjabis. They were actually farmed in false
case. Justice was not done. In fact, those at the helm of
affairs in UAE used their official position to further
racial discrimination," he added.
Besides, "India should take up their case at every
international forum to expose racism and officially sponsored
discrimination," he added.
