Chandigarh: Several areas in Chandigarh were on Friday lashed by rains giving respite to the people from the scorching heat conditions in the region.

The weatherman attributed the rainfall to western disturbances in the region.

Mercury nosedived by around two degrees Celsius.

The maximum temperature hovered between 33 deg C to 37 deg C in most places of the region, Met sources said.

The rain is likely to improve the power and water situation in the region.

Chandigarh, the capital of Punjab and Haryana, had been
facing acute water shortage for the past three days.

The rain, however, can play spoilsport for heaps of
wheat grains lying in markets, sources said, adding that the
rain could lead to increase in moisture content in wheat.
