Chandigarh: Biting cold conditions relented in several parts of Punjab and Haryana with minimum temperature going up by upto 5 notches, even though rains lashed the region.

In Chandigarh, mercury rose by 4 notches above normal and settled at 9.7 deg C, MeT office said here today.

In Punjab, minimum temperature increased in Amritsar and Patiala districts by 5 degree C and settled at 9.4 deg C and 11 deg C respectively. Ludhiana had a minimum of 9.4 deg C, up by 3 notches.
In Haryana, minimum temperature in Karnal reached double digit at 11 deg C, up by 4 degrees. Hisar had a low of 8.2 deg C, while Ambala recorded a minimum of 9.3 deg C.

Rohtak and Bhiwani recorded minimum temperatures of 9.4 deg C and 8.8 deg C respectively.

However, Narnaul recorded mercury at 7.2 deg C, lowest in the region.

Rains continued to lash northern region with Chandigarh recording maximum rainfall of 58.1 mm, followed by Ambala at 32 mm, Hisar at 20.2 mm, Karnal at 16 mm, Ludhiana
at 13.4 mm and Patiala at 13 mm.
