Cold wave abates in Punjab, Haryana

 The new year brought some relief to the people of Punjab and Haryana from the biting cold wave condition, which abated today at most parts of the two states.

Chandigarh: The new year brought some relief to the people of Punjab and Haryana from the biting cold wave condition, which abated today at most parts of the two states.
The minimum temperatures rose slightly and hovered just above the normal level, a MeT official said.

The fog, which had paralysed normal life in the region over the past many days, had lifted from several places, the official said.
Chandigarh recorded a minimum temperature of 7.8 degrees Celsius, two notches above normal.

In Haryana, Bhiwani registered a low of 9 degrees Celsius, three notches above normal while Hisar's low settled at 6.2 degrees Celsius, up by one notch.
Karnal and Narnual recorded a minimum temperature at 7 degrees Celsius each, while Ambala's low settled at 7.5 degree Celsius, all above normal minimum temperatures.

In Punjab, Patiala recorded a low of 7.8 degrees Celsius, two notches up while Ludhiana's low settled at 6.8 degrees Celsius.
Amritsar recorded a minimum temperature of 4.6 degrees Celsius, two notches above normal level.
