Congress high command to settle state leadership issue: Amarinder Singh

Congress leader and former Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh on Friday said it is up to the party high command to settle the leadership issue in the state.

Ludhiana: Congress leader and former Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh on Friday said it is up to the party high command to settle the leadership issue in the state.

"It is up to the Congress high command to settle the leadership issue in the state after having met all the MLAs from the state and knowing their views," Amarinder said here.

Asked about his stand on the issue of party's leadership in the state, Amarinder said, "My views, as also those of the party legislators, are already known to the party high command and I won't like to air my views here".

Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi had met all Congress MLAs from Punjab this week in New Delhi seeking their views on strengthening the party in the state.

Amarinder, the Lok Sabha MP from Amritsar, had sought removal of Bajwa from Congress high command last month to take on the SAD-BJP combine in Punjab.

Asked about his participation in the proposed farmers' rally by Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi in Punjab, the Congress leader said that he hoped the leadership issue is sorted out by that time.

He said the programme has so far been proposed only and nothing has been finalised yet.

Punjab Congress has planned to hold a mega rally next month to raise farmers' issues and the rally will be addressed by Rahul Gandhi.

"Since the programme relates to the pressing issues concerning the farmers and has been proposed and suggested by the Congress Vice President (Rahul) Gandhi, who will also be attending and addressing it, he as well as all the MLAs and other leaders will very much participate in it," he said.

About the Delhi assembly elections, Amarinder said it is too early to rush to conclusions.

He said the opinion polls have often been proved wrong in case of the assembly elections where the number of voters is small and expressed confidence that the Congress will do very well in Delhi elections.

He said that even last time the opinion polls went awfully wrong in Delhi Assembly Elections and he is not sure about how they could be proved correct this time.
