Ex-serviceman shot dead in Punjab by nephew over land dispute

A 65-year-old ex-serviceman was shot dead here allegedly by his nephew on Moga-Dosanjh road in this district over a land dispute, police said Thursday.

Moga: A 65-year-old ex-serviceman was shot dead here allegedly by his nephew on Moga-Dosanjh road in this district over a land dispute, police said Thursday.

The incident occurred last evening when the victim Baldev Singh and his neighbour were returning home after appearing in a court case, they said.

Avtar Singh alias Tari arrived on a motorcycle along with by some persons including his mother and allegedly shot at Baldev on Moga-Dosanjh road, killing him on the spot, police said.

Avtar, a hardcore criminal who was already facing many cases including attempt to murder and had been declared as a proclaimed offender, fled the spot, they said.

Police said that the deceased and his nephew had a dispute over some land and sometime back Balvir Kaur, mother of accused Avtar Singh had threatened to teach Baldev a lesson.

A case of murder has been registered, however, no arrests have been made yet, they said.
