Chandigarh: The flood situation in about 100
villages in different districts of Punjab and Haryana on Tuesday
eased as water levels steadily went down in prime rivers criss
crossing the two agrarian states.
While hardly any area in Punjab received rainfall, at
least few places in Haryana were drenched by rains, the Met
office said here.
Kalka received 35 mm followed by five mm in Morni and
slight drizzles in Karnal in Haryana.
The water level in most of the rivers, including Sutlej,
Beas, Ravi, Ghaggar, Som and Yamuna passing through Punjab and
Haryana was fast receding, providing relief to villagers
facing flood fury, officials said.
In Punjab, normalcy was returning to several villages in
districts of Kapurthala, Fazilka, Ferozepur, Tarn Taran,
Nawanshahar and Hoshiarpur which were facing flood-like
situation.
The situation in Yamuna Nagar, Karnal, Panipat, Sonepat,
Faridabad and Palwal has also improved, they said.
The water level in Bhakra dam at present is 1669 feet as
against the optimum level of 1680 feet. The inflow in the dam
in view of rains in the hills is 47,000 cusecs whereas the
outflow is 33,000 cusecs.
In Pong Dam, the water level is 1385.74 feet as against
the optimum level of 1390 feet. The inflow in the dam is
49,000 cusecs and the outflow is 65,000 cusecs.
A spokesman of the Bhakra Beas Management Board (BBMB)
said the situation is under control.
