Fog delayed the movement of many trains passing through
the two states by hours and also affected flight schedules.

A thick blanket of fog reduced visibility at Amritsar,
Ludhiana, Patiala and Jalandhar, while in Haryana it prevailed
in Karnal, Ambala and Kurukshetra, the MeT Office said here.

Chandigarh, which remained covered by fog this morning,
registered a minimum of 8.8 degree Celsius, up four degrees.

Amritsar continued to be the coldest place in the two states, recording a minimum temperature of 3 degree Celsius.
Ludhiana registered a low of 7.9 degree Celsius, which
was three notches above normal, while Patiala`s minimum
settled at 4.6 degree Celsius, it said.

In Haryana, Hisar recorded a low of 9.1 degree Celsius,
up four notches. Ambala`s low settled at 9.6 degree Celsius,
also up four degrees while the minimum at Rohtak was 9.3
degree Celsius, up three notches.

The respective minimums at Bhiwani and Karnal were 10.6 degree Celsius and 6.5 degree Celsius, it said.
Meanwhile, government or government-aided and private
schools in Haryana will remain closed from January 5 to
January 16 in view of cold and foggy weather conditions
prevailing in the State, an official release said here.

Among the trains which were running late in the region
included Howrah-Jammu (Himgiri), which was late by over 9
hours, Lucknow-Chandigarh by four hours, Hapa-Jammu by over 4
hours, Amritsar-New Delhi Shane-e-Punjab by over 2 hours,
Indore-Jammu Tawi Malwa Express by close to 4 hours and
Katihar-Amritsar was running late by over 7 hours.
