Chandigarh: After a gap of few days, a thick blanket of fog was back at many places across Punjab and Haryana on the first day of the New Year, even as minimum temperatures in the two states settled a few notches above normal.
Fog prevailed early today at many places, including Ambala, Hisar,Rohtak, Kurukshetra, Amritsar, Ludhiana and Patiala while misty conditions persisted at Chandigarh, the MeT said here.
Reports reaching here said that vehicular traffic at many places in the two states was affected owing to reduced visibility caused by fog.
Meanwhile, Chandigarh recorded a minimum temperature of 8.2 degrees Celsius, three above normal.
In Haryana, Ambala registered a low of 7.8 deg C, up two notches while the minimum at Hisar was 7.1 deg C, also two above normal.
The minimum at Karnal was 9 deg C, up two degrees while the low at Rohtak settled at 7.2 deg C, up one notch.
In Punjab, Ludhiana and Patiala recorded respective lows of 8.2 deg C and 7.9 deg C, both up by two degrees each.
Amritsar had a cold night at 5 deg C, though the minimum settled two notches above normal.
