Moga: A man was killed and twelve others injured after residents of two villages of Muktsar district clashed over the construction of a bundh, police said Wednesday.

Senior Superintendent of Police Indermohan Singh said the clash took place when Pakka villagers armed with weapons yesterday rushed to the site of the bundh constructed by Nandgarh villagers.

Nandgarh villagers had constructed the bundh to save their village from floods, while Pakka villagers objected to it as they claimed that this would result in flooding on their side and cause damage to their crops.

The two sides clashed over dismantling of the bundh, police said.

Mohan Singh, a resident of Nandgarh, was killed when someone opened fire during the clash, they said.

Police have been deployed at the site and a case has been registered in connection with the incident.
