Amritsar: A fast-unto-death that couldn’t last for even half-a-day. Yes, BJP MP Navjot Singh Sidhu called off his fast before noon on Saturday, barely few hours after starting it, after he received an assurance from Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal through fax.

The CM reportedly assured Sidhu that funds for the development of Amritsar that have got stalled, would be disbursed soon.

Sidhu on Friday had said that he would go on a fast-unto-death to protest against the stalling of disbursement of development funds for his Amritsar constituency.

"I know what are my duties towards the development of Amritsar being an elected Member of Parliament. I will do my duty honestly without criticising anybody and without speaking against anybody... I will sit on a fast-unto-death from tomorrow (Saturday)," he had said yesterday.

"Party (BJP) president Rajnath Singh has directed me to remain silent. But my duty towards Amritsar would never be stopped," Sidhu had said after returning from Delhi on Friday.

Sidhu said he would not point fingers at anyone for the delay in carrying out development projects and added he had requested the Punjab CM Parkash Singh Badal to order a judicial probe to ascertain on whose order Rs 60 crore of Amritsar Improvement Trust was diverted.
