Navjot Singh Sidhu's wife and MLA from Amritsar (East) resigns from BJP

Navjot Kaur Sidhu, wife of former Rajya Sabha MP Navjot Singh Sidhu, resigned from the BJP on Saturday.

Chandigarh: Navjot Kaur Sidhu, wife of former Rajya Sabha MP Navjot Singh Sidhu, resigned from primary membership of BJP on Saturday.

Kaur is MLA from Amritsar (East).

Her resignation was accepted by union minister Vijay Sampla, who is also Punjab BJP president.

Earlier, Navjot Singh Sidhu, along with MLA Pargat Singh and Ludhiana MLAs Simarjit Bains and Balwinder Bains, had recently announced the launch of the 'Awaaz-e- Punjab' forum after a public fall-out with BJP which he formally quit on September 14.

Sidhu, who quit his Rajya Sabha membership on July 18 and had announced floating of a 'non-political' platform, had sent his resignation to BJP chief Amit Shah.

BJP had not fielded him from Amritsar in the 2014 Parliamentary elections. The party had fielded now Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, who lost to Amarinder Singh.

The cricketer-turned-politician had announced last month that he would not float a party to contest the Punjab Assembly election as he did not wish to play a 'spoilsport' by dividing anti-incumbency votes.

But later the former BJP MP said that they were 'open to alliance' for the 'betterment of Punjab'.

There had been speculations about the former cricketer joining hands with the Aam Aadmi Party but it was ruled out after he lashed out at its national convener Arvind Kejriwal.

He had dubbed the AAP as an 'anarchy in the garb of democracy' and had said that Kejriwal wanted only 'yes-men'.

He had also attacked the Akali- BJP combine and the Congress party.
