Punjab: Bajwa seeks CBI probe on BJP leaders in drug smuggling charges
Exhorting Prime Minister Narendra Modi to listen to Punjab's 'Mann Ki Baat', state Congress chief Partap Singh Bajwa on Friday demanded CBI investigation against senior BJP leaders who were allegedly 'involved' in drug smuggling.
Chandigarh: Exhorting Prime Minister Narendra Modi to listen to Punjab's 'Mann Ki Baat', state Congress chief Partap Singh Bajwa on Friday demanded CBI investigation against senior BJP leaders who were allegedly 'involved' in drug smuggling.
"I have been seeking CBI probe into the drug racket and my stand is vindicated ... Today not only SAD but their alliance partner BJP is also involved in the drug racket," Bajwa said in a statement here.
On Wednesday, police booked five persons, including BJP leader, BJYM chiefs of Ferozepur district, on charges of corruption and trying to help drug smugglers.
Already senior leaders of BJP and their accomplices have been named in the drug racket, the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief alleged, adding the ruling SAD-BJP combine "was playing with the future of the state".
Reiterating his demand for a comprehensive CBI probe to unearth the "deep rooted scam", Bajwa asked the PM to keep his commitment of eradicating drug menace from Punjab.
He urged Modi to "not only do 'Mann Ki Baat'" but also listen to Punjab's 'Mann Ki Baat'.
Punjab has been turned into drug haven with direct involvement of leaders from the ruling Akali Dal-BJP alliance, thereby ruining the youth of the state, the PCC chief said.
"Rather than the alliance being a non-political relationship as claimed by Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal, it is for hurting the future of Punjab and leading the state towards total ruin," Bajwa said.
"I too now agree that it is not just political alliance. It is an alliance of the mafia as names of Akali ministers have already surfaced with one of them having been forced to resign while efforts are on to protect others."
The state Congress chief made it clear that his party would build public pressure besides taking other recourses demanding probe by an independent agency like CBI in the issue.
