Chandigarh: Workers of the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal-BJP combine stopped three trains, Monday, on the busy Amritsar-Pathankot section to enforce ‘Punjab Bandh’ against price rise.

The half-day bandh is expected to garner widespread support as the ruling combine is itself enforcing it. A Core Committee, comprising of Education Minister Sewa Singh Sekhwan and state BJP president Ashwani Sharma was formed to ensure that that a strong protest is lodged against inflation.

Sekhwan pointed out that the recent hike in prices of petroleum products has put a burden of Rs 1,500 crore on residents of Punjab.

Sekhwan said that “SAD-BJP would take its fight against inflation to its logical end and would not allow Congress-led UPA to make the life of common man miserable.”

More details are awaited
