Punjab: Eight injured in clash

Moga: Eight persons, including four policemen, were injured when members of the Dalit community demanding reservation in jobs clashed with police, which used batons and tear gas to quell them at Mehna here.

Police today said that over 100 Dalit community members blocked rail traffic between Moga and Ludhiana and allegedly indulged in stone pelting, leaving four policemen including an Assistant Sub Inspector injured last night.

Police used batons and tear gas to disperse the protesting group.

The protestors were demanding reservation in government jobs.

Moga`s Senior Superintendent of Police Snehdeep Sharma said railway authorities had to stop the Ferozepur-Ludhiana bound train at Moga and Ludhiana-Ferozepur train at Ajitwal.

The track was cleared after 9 pm and train services were restored after that, he said.
