Rains in Punjab, Haryana push down temperature

People of Punjab, Haryana finally got some respite from the sweltering heat.

Chandigarh: People of Punjab and Haryana finally got some respite from the sweltering heat on Saturday as the minimum temperature fell below average in most areas after rains and thunderstorm.

Strong winds also felled trees and disrupted electricity supply.

Amritsar in Punjab recorded a minimum temperature of 20 degrees Celsius Saturday after 24.8 mm of rainfall Friday night.

Patiala and Ludhiana recorded 20.9 and 20.8 degrees Celsius respectively, three notches below the average.

Chandigarh registered a minimum temperature of 22 degrees Celsius. It received 9.4 mm rainfall on Friday night.

"The rains have brought some respite from the heat," an official of the meteorological department said here.

In Haryana, Ambala and Hisar recorded a low of 19.4 degrees Celsius while Karnal settled at 20 degrees Celsius Saturday morning.
