Residents of Satnampura locality blocked traffic for about an hour on National Highway 1 to protest the alleged inordinate delay in completing the work of re-carpeting the stretch of Phagwara-Nakodar road.

Phagwara: Residents of Satnampura locality on Tuesday blocked traffic for about an hour on National Highway 1 to protest the alleged inordinate delay in completing the work of re-carpeting the stretch of Phagwara-Nakodar road.

The protesters were supported by the BSP, Congress and some Hindu bodies, besides villagers of surrounding areas and residents of Hadiabad sub-town.

They alleged that the dusty road, in absence of laying of coal tar, caused respiratory and visual problems to the people of the locality.
Villagers also faced problems in ferrying their produce to mandis here as the road was bumpy, they said.

SDM Parminderpal Singh Sandhu persuaded the protesters to lift the blockade by promising necessary action.
Meanwhile, long lines of vehicles queued up on both sides of NH1 towards Jalandhar and Ludhiana, Phagwara-Nakodar and Phagwara-Hoshiarpur roads, causing inconvenience to stranded passengers and commuters in scorching summer heat.
