Rs 1.68 crore looted from private bank's van in Punjab

Four persons wearing police uniforms allegedly looted Rs 1.68 crore from a vehicle of a private bank near Nanksar village on the Ludhiana-Ferozepur national highway, about 45 km from here on Monday, police said.

Ludhiana: Four persons wearing police uniforms allegedly looted Rs 1.68 crore from a vehicle of a private bank near Nanksar village on the Ludhiana-Ferozepur national highway, about 45 km from here on Monday, police said.

The armed men came in a car and stopped the van, which was carrying cash to Ferozepur following which they looted the cash box at gun-point, police said.

After loading the cash box in their car, they locked the bank employees inside the van and sped towards Ludhiana, they said.

The accused brandished an AK-47 rifle along with other firearms, police said.

A case has been registered against the unidentified persons, Senior Superintendent of Police Ludhiana (rural), Ravcharn Singh Brar said.

An alert has been sounded and police posts have been set up to nab the culprits, the SSP added.
