Stray dog menace hits Punjab assembly
Alarmed at the rise of dog-bite incidents, the Punjab Vidhan Sabha on Saturday decided to constitute a joint committee of the House to take up the matter of stray dogs with the Centre.

A committee of the Vidhan Sabha will be set up to find
out ways and means to control the menace," Speaker Nirmal
Singh Kahlon assured the Assembly.
Earlier, during the zero hour, Ajit Inder Singh Mofar drew
the attention of the House towards the rise in incidents of
dog bite in the state.

Meanwhile, Jagdish Raj Sawhney of BJP sought an immediate
ban on use of polythene bags in the state as it blocks
sewerages and creates lot of litter.
Agreeing with the BJP MLA, the Speaker said that he too
was in favour of banning the use of polythene bags in the
state. The speaker directed Local Government Minister
Manoranjan Kalia to ensure ban on use of polythenes.
However, the Minister tried to pass the buck by saying it
falls under the ambit of pollution control board.
But the Speaker snubbed the minister telling him that the
board also comes under the government.
On the issue of a spate of road accidents in the state
raised by Congress member Sukhpal Singh Khaira, the Speaker
said "it`s a serious matter...I will take some decision on it
within a week."
