Moga (Punjab): A taxi driver, who offered to
drop a woman waiting for a bus to her destination free of
charge, allegedly raped her at a deserted place after giving
her a cola drink that he had laced with intoxicant.
The woman, a widow, hailing from Moga in Punjab was
waiting for a bus here yesterday when she agreed to sit in the
taxi of a man who offered her lift, police said.
The woman was returning to Moga after paying obeisance at
Gurdwara Nanaksar near Jagroan in Ludhiana district.
When the cab reached Ajitwal here, the driver stopped the
vehicle and offered her the cola laced with some intoxicant
which she consumed, police said.
Later, when she became unconscious, the driver, whose
identity still remains unknown, drove her to some isolated
place where he committed the crime.
When the victim regained her senses, she informed the
passersby who later called up the police.
A case has been registered under various sections of the
IPC against the unknown driver, police said.
