Chandigarh: At least there's someone in the Congress party who is against dynasty politics.

Punjab Congress chief Capt Amarinder Singh is aiming to “set an example” by not letting any member of his family members contest on a Congress ticket.

“My decision is subject to the final approval of Congress president Sonia Gandhi. We will do whatever she says. But in our family, we have decided that only I will contest the Assembly elections. My wife, Patiala MLA Preneet Kaur, will step down from the Assembly,” Amarinder told The Indian Express.

Amarinder added that his brother Malwinder Singh and son Raninder Singh will also not fight the Punjab elections due in 2017.

But, as per Amarinder, his decision is not aimed at the Congress leadership - it is aimed at the Badal dynasty in Punjab.

“When we attack Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal for distributing tickets and important positions to his family members, including his Deputy CM son Sukhbir Singh Badal, son-in-law and Punjab Food Minister Adesh Partap Singh Kairon, daughter-in-law and Union minister Harsimrat Badal, her brother Bikram Singh Majithia, how can I allow this to happen in my family?” he said, as per the daily.

“We are doing this to set an example,” he added.
