Jaipur: Trying to gain foothold in Rajasthan by encashing his party`s stand on the promotion quota bill, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday termed it as a "big injustice" with other castes and demanded its scrapping in the state.
Speaking at a programme organised by anti-reservation government employees here, Yadav said the Rajasthan Chief Minister should scrap the reservation in promotion in government jobs.
"Reservation in service promotion is a sheer injustice and deception with government employees and should end, I took this bold step within no time and Rajasthan Chief Minister should also do this," he said.
Yadav, whose Samajwadi Party is against reservation in promotion bill, promised support for Rajasthan government employees on the issue and also sought their political support.
With an eye on the polls in the state this year, the 39-year-old leader asked the people in the rally, organised Samta Andolan Samiti (SAS), to vote for the SP.
"My step to end reservation in promotion in UP is absolutely correct otherwise people would have thrown us out. We are with you (anti-reservation Rajasthan state employees) and you also take care of `Cycle` (SP`s symbol)," he said.
Yadav stressed that corruption flourishes under the system of reservation in promotions, hence the step to end it should be taken.
He said that his party will continue to oppose reservation in promotion bill in Parliament.
"We will not let the bill pass in Parliament on any condition," he said while targeting both Congress and BJP.
"Policies of Congress never pushed the country on the path of growth and development and BJP is also no different," the Chief Minister said.
"This is an election year, no one knows the date of elections...It can happen anytime and you all take care of `Cycle` here," he said.
The SP government had scrapped reservation in promotion following a Supreme Court order, which quashed the reservation policy that was introduced by the previous BSP government.
Earlier, Yadav was felicitated by the Samta Andolan, a movement of Rajasthan employees who are against reservation in promotions, for his decision to end reservation in promotions.
Leaders associated with the movement also demanded from the Congress government to end the reservation in promotion.
They challenged that the government would have to face consequences if it did not pay head to their plea.
"Reserved category candidates who once took advantage of reservation by getting service under reservation are again being labelled as backward and being benefited by reservation in promotion, it is injustice with unreserved category employees," Parashar Narayan Sharma, president of `Samta Andolan Samiti` said.
"Reservation in service promotions is against the fundamentals of Constitution. Centre is trying to amend Constitution and BJP is supporting it but we will have to give a strong answer," he said.
Sharma also asked both Congress and BJP to mention their stand over this issue in their election manifestos.
Other members also echoed the same views and said that they will extend their support to a party of candidate, who supported their demand.
