Jodhpur: BJP supporters on Wednesday launched a protest and attempted a forced shutdown of market here, demanding immediate arrest of a Congress councillor who had allegedly made indecent remarks at some women.
Hundreds of BJP workers assembled at the Khanda Falsa police station and demanded that the Congress councillor Shahabuddin be arrested. Shahabuddin, along with his supporters, had allegedly made indecent remarks at some women during his victory procession on Tuesday.
Supporters of the councillor also converged at the police station and demanded that the police should strike down the complaint against him. This led to a minor clash between members of both the groups, the police said.
Senior police officials along with BJP leaders, including Sursagar MLA Surya Kanta Vyas and MP Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
A case has been registered against Shahbuddin under section 354 of IPC (assaulting woman) and statements have been registered under section 161 of CrPC.
"We have already launched investigation into the matter and also deployed RAC in the area to avert any untoward development," DCP (East) Rahul Jain said, assuring that the guilty would not be spared.
