Jaipur: A 25-year-old woman died while two children were also feared drowned after a boat capsized in the backwater of Mahi river in Banswara district in Rajasthan on Tuesday.
The boat was ferrying eight passengers to attend a religious programme on the occasion of Maha Shivratri when the incident took place, SHO Ambapura police station Shivnath said.
While the body of the woman, identified as Aanchal, was recovered from the spot, the other two children including her 3-year-old daughter, Rakshu, were missing, he said.
Five other passengers sailing on the boat with the victims were rescued by the locals from the incident site which occurred behind Mahi Bajaj Sagar Dam located in the Mahi River, Shivnath said.
"They got into the fishing boat for a fun ride and went into the backwater of Mahi where the boat capsized," he said.
Rescue operation is underway to locate the two children, he said.
